Satan, very much wanted you to remain an unbeliever. He is not one who gives up. Now he wants to make you fruitless in your efforts in the extension of His kingdom. It can be by causing imbalance in holding fast each precept of the truth present in a pair. Well meaning believers can be tricked and driven to the extremes by cunning and crafty teachers.

There are pairs of truth which are to be held in tension, being both scriptural.

Objective truth and Subjective Experience:

You may grapple with the revealed truth as a theologian and a philosopher and lose sight of the rich experience He intends in you.

you may delight in the few kinds of experiences you have and remain a spiritual pauper in the knowledge of God.

Sovereignty of God and Human Responsibility:

You may remain as one who lauds His will doing nothing.

[OR]

you may ignore His sovereignty and take on yourself your responsibility, gloating and grudging over what you do.

Predestination and Freewill of Man:

You may celebrate saying you are destined to heaven and may remain callous in preaching the Gospel.

[OR]

you may glory in your freedom struggling to stay moral never knowing His deliverance at every stage and may be lost in doing your will.

Quantity and Quality:

You may delight in reaching many and end up in never caring for them.

[OR]

you may delight in discipling a few and end up never caring for the many who are perishing.

Individual faith and Corporate faith:

You may delight in your faith and may end up forgetting "the faith", which is doctrinal.

[OR]

you may delight in expressing "the faith" as a community in creeds and may end up never examining your personal convictions.

Abundance and Need:

You may delight in asking and receiving, not knowing what meaning He wills in your want.

[OR]

you may practice poverty like a mendicant taking glory in it and end up refusing His provision.

Evangelism and Social action:

You may delight in preaching the Gospel and may end up not caring for the poor around you.

you may delight in social service and may end up never caring for the Gospel.

Gift of the spirit and Fruit of the spirit:

You maybe conscious of your gift and you may lose sight of the fruit which is Christ likeness.

[OR]

you may take delight in your character and may lose sight of your responsibility to function according to your gift.

The Armour of God:

In the Armour of God, each piece, the girdle-belt of truth, the breast plate- righteousness, the brazen boots-readiness with the Gospel, the shield-taking up faith ,the helmet-holding up the cup of salvation and the sword -taking the word of God, are all equally important.

Any piece missing would make you vulnerable to his attack.

Many preachers these days love to emphasize one, playing down the other five. They cause fatal damage in our warfare with the enemy. It is their superspirituality. Let us be watchful. Only prayer holds all these together.

May the Lord enable us to be balanced, holding fast the sound doctrine.
