These days there is much emphasis on spirituality in teaching and preaching. Believers are conscious of their outward behaviour in view of their inward spirituality. It may, well be to the delight of their teachers. Here, Satan might trick them into hypocrisy and there might be no possibility for consistency in their faithfulness. Please note that the Lord's delight is in our knowledge of Him[Hos 6:4-5].
In these days let us long for knowing Him better. The only source for such knowledge is His Word. We see His superintending role in not only inspiring the writers but also in it's arrangement and preservation. Afterall, His revelation in History had been progressive. You understand well the Pentateuch only in the light of Prophets and Writings, then all these in the light of the Gospels and Acts. And now every book in the light of the Epistles. Finally, Revelation binds all books together to usher us into the future kingdom.
The Lord willed that Paul would write the most number of books in the NT. 13 out of 27 for sure. Hebrews, we cannot totally rule out. Paul claims that the mystery of the Gospel and the implications of the Cross are revealed to Him. But long after the day of Pentecost. Hence he gives the clue for understanding the whole of the Scriptures! He presents doctrine in Galatians and Romans : to Galatians because, false teaching had already entered and to Romans because of their presence in Roman capital. He presents the Church in Christ to the Ephesians and Christ in the Church to the Colossians. He writes about his thankfulness to the Philippians for their gift of generosity and expresses his thankfulness and praise to God for the faith and life of Thessalonians, in his 2 epistles. He founded the Church in Thessalonica and hoped that they would not entertain false teachers as it was quite early. He founded the Church in Corinth and to his disgust found on a latter day that they were drowned in rivalries, court cases, immorality and incest. All because they held other teachers in high esteem and Paul in poor light. Hence his two letters to them. Letters to his young friends, two to Timothy and one to Titus, are instructions for caring for the young Churches. His care for one single person, Onesimus is seen in his letter to Philemon.
Now where to begin? To begin with, let us know for sure that abiding in His Word is more an attitude than a personal study and listening on Sunday and midweek. It is hunger for receiving and understanding His word. God gave us education and caused the Apostles and the Church fathers to hand us down 66 books intact from cover to cover, inspite of plots of Emperors like Diocletian and others. How many years are enough for study to have exhaustive knowledge? Hours and hours for other things! What about this life-giving Word? Let us not allow much time for other secondary things. Let us gear up for study to please Him in loving devotion(II Pet 1:19-22;II Tim3:14-16 and II Tim1;13-14). Let us long for receiving the teaching and for guarding it through the Spirit of His Son.
