It is always safe if we long for a biblical experience of a particular biblical character. But this should be according to our situation and need. There are speakers who drive us to long for one and only kind of experience irrespective of our need and situation. All in the name of high spirituality! Beware of them. There are many biblical characters who stand as great examples of faith.
God's will(Mark 3:35):
Eleazer, Gideon, David and Paul are great examples of those who sought His will, found it and followed. There might be a situation where you are at cross roads. You need to know His will so that you might choose His way.
Committing our ways(Pr3:6) :
One great example is Ruth who committed her ways to God in following her mother-in-law. God straightened her path and she ended up as a great character in the lineage of Jesus. Is it not proper to commit our ways to God when our future looks so dim? Is finding God's will the only way?
Loving God(Romans 8:28) :
Joseph shines out in this line. The only thing he knew was that God was with him. He went through ups and downs, never grudging and complaining. God was working things for his good. Is it less spiritual if you learn to love God knowing that He is with you? Do you need to examine whether it is God's will when you go through suffering?
Asking God (John 15:7) :
A great example in this kind of experience is Hannah. She suffered insults at the hand of her
rival. But when she sought His ways and prayed to God , He answered her. Situations of this kind necessitate asking and receiving. This kind of experience is no inferior to any one of the rest.
Seeking God's kingdom (Matthew 6:33) :
Abraham's experience fits in here. He knew only to walk as a sojourner setting his eyes on the city whose architect and builder is God. He was the richest among his fellowmen. If you learn to walk like Abraham is it not a great spiritual experience?
All kinds of experiences are God ordained. Don't you be deceived when teachers deprive you of the rest by overemphasizing one. They do this all in the name of spirituality. Let us learn to keep things in their proper perspective.
